Walk carefully through the paths - some led to the bottom of the massive dune.

it rained for about ten minutes when we were at Half Moon Lake then the sun broke through and intesified the color of the wet trees.
A section of woods just over 5 miles down Highway 13 in the Hiawatha National Forest. Clear air, blue skies and cold temps!

Storm approaching in the background hit about an hour later with wind and snow. The snow abated after a half hour and did not stick around.

Totem Bight State Park is north of Ketchikan. It is visited by the cruise ship crowd so go early. There were totems under protective covering that are being cared for. Here is a good example of an eagle. (2009)

A view of Mt. Edgecumbe from the top of Harbor Mountain (what a hike!). See the snow melt a month later? The road going up to Harbor Mountain had just been opened as the snow had finally melted enough to open the third and last gate to the hiking trail. The stairs up to this point are not for the faint of heart but feel free to step off the path to catch your breath at any time (I did several times) since the whole scene once you reach this point will ultimately leave you breathless!
The view from Harbor Mountain. The snow didn't melt enough until the end of June to get up to the top. And I went the first day it was open; my last day in Sitka in 2007. We were blessed with beautiful weather. From what I've read, there were gun placements up here during World War II (2007).
An old boat at Burwash Landing, YT. This is a nice place to stop for lunch or for the night. It's very beautiful, even without the green of summer.

The divets in the tree trunk are from the planks that were inserted into the trunk in order to support the loggers who were cutting the tree down. These stumps are all over Stanley Park, the UBC campus, and other places in the region (2005).
