Florida

I grew up in Florida - no snow, no ice, no winter weather driving. The seasonal changes are subtle yet visible if you pay attention. Summer has stiffling heat; winter can bring pleasant cool air but an occasional jolt of frigid weather. Now that I've lived in the snowy north for a while, Christmas without snow seems not so much like Christmas. Still, I think I could get used to driving with the windows down in January again.

  • Right about here, the roar from the engines began to barrel across the Indian River and when they reached us, I started to cry and lowered the camera for a moment. It is an amazing, emotional moment. I saw Challenger explode outside my apartment window when I was living in Orlando in 1986. Every launch is just beautiful and special. Catch one before they are no more.
